Down And Out in Singapore
People take mementos of where they have traveled. Mementos to stir memories of places traveld. And these mementos can take any number of shapes and styles. A postcard sent home to yourself to remind you where you’ve been. A book of matches from that unforgetable bar or restaurant. A bar of soap from the hotel that was the splurge that you deserved. A seashell from your favourite beach. Some have even gone so far as to take some of that wonderful beach sand. A small bottle or a plastic baggie. Tucked neatly into a shoe or a hidden corner of a suitcase or backpack, destined for a shelf or desk for viewing. In the Whitsundays, it’s been theorized that if every visitor took home a handful of sand, it would recede 5 meters every year due to sand loss.
